Pastor Hernán still remembers the day he first heard about the Crossroads program. He had been invited to speak at a national gathering of prison chaplains where nearly sixty chaplains from across Argentina were present. Between workshops, he met a chaplain who shared how Crossroads Bible studies were transforming lives inside the prisons of the capital, Buenos Aires.
The impact was undeniable.
Hernán returned to Misiones determined to bring the program to his province. After connecting with Crossroads leaders, he launched the program at his facility.
As the only state-recognized evangelical chaplain in the province, Hernán has a front-row seat to what God is doing behind bars.
“The inmates grow in knowledge,” he says. “Something awakens in them—the hunger for the Word, the desire to know more.”
But the impact doesn’t stop with the students.
Hernán has watched God shape the hearts of local believers who serve as mentors.
“Each lesson gives them a new experience with God,” he explains. “Many people in our churches didn’t know where they fit. Through Crossroads, they’ve found their place. They feel part of something—they feel like family.”
This, Hernán says, is one of the greatest gifts of the program: it not only disciples people in prison; it strengthens the Church outside the walls.
And the doors are opening even wider.
Though the work is slow, he sees tremendous opportunity—both within Misiones and beyond. “If we keep planting,” he says, “God will continue transforming lives.”
When asked what he would tell other pastors, Hernán doesn’t hesitate:
“You are facing a great opportunity. We read Paul’s words to Timothy, but it is difficult to put them into practice. Crossroads gives us the key to truly remember those who are imprisoned—not only as pastors, but as churches.”
