“Prison became the place where God saved my life.” – Fredi
After more than thirty years caught in the chaos of gang life, addiction, and incarceration, Fredi hit rock bottom. “My life before was a mess,” he said. “It was chaos. I was involved in drugs, alcohol, street problems. I was in a gang.”
In prison, at his lowest point, Fredi was ready to end his life. But God interrupted his plan with hope. “I made a covenant with Him. I told Him I couldn’t live like this anymore,” Fredi said. That moment of surrender in 2014 became the turning point.
“What I have now is a gift. I live at peace—I’m not afraid anymore,” he said. As Fredi grew in faith, God began to restore what had been broken. His relationships with his wife and children were healed. “I pray with my kids now. I teach them the Word,” he said.
Fredi also began serving others behind bars, walking alongside those who were still trapped in cycles of hopelessness. That deep love continues to drive Fredi today. After his brother tragically died in a prison fire following his release, Fredi’s passion for ministry only grew. “That’s why I serve with even more love,” he said.
Now, Fredi is partnering with Crossroads and his church to lead prison ministry in Comayagua, Honduras. He sees each student as family. “When I don’t get to visit, it’s like I haven’t eaten.” His dream is to see Crossroads expand to every prison in the country.
