By the time he reached his fifties, Billy Lim had lost everything.
Raised in a poor family with five brothers and two sisters, Billy turned to marijuana as early as twelve years old. “It gave me a sense of euphoria,” he recalled. “By the time I joined the Navy, the imprint of drug use was already there.” Over the years, his addiction deepened, expanding to alcohol, gambling, sleeping pills, and more. It cost him his marriage, his home, and every dollar he had. “My life really broke apart,” he said. “If not for the grace of God, I would still be homeless.”
At his lowest point, Billy wandered into a church, overwhelmed by grief and hopelessness. “I cried and knelt before the cross,” he said. “I said, ‘God, everyone has deserted me. What happened? I know You—but now I’m at the end.’” He was battling depression and the suffocating weight of years lost to addiction.
But God was not finished with Billy’s story.
Through the kindness of others, Billy was directed to a detox program to begin recovery. From there, he was introduced to a Christian halfway house led by believers who had once walked the same hard road.
It was during this time that Billy encountered Crossroads Prison Ministries. The Bible study lessons helped him not only understand God’s Word but also apply it to his daily life. “Crossroads didn’t just teach me the Bible—it taught me how to live,” he said. “The lessons helped me know God deeply and intimately. Crossroads helped me build a foundation that stuck.”
After completing the program, Billy continued studying the Bible and began volunteering with Crossroads. He now serves the homeless and visits prisons across Southeast Asia, sharing the Gospel and his personal story. As a rideshare driver, he constantly shares the Gospel with his passengers. Billy is not just a survivor—he’s a walking testimony.
“I plant seeds of the Gospel with the passengers God brings into my car,” he said. “I’m doing my part for the glory of God.”
Billy credits God’s grace—and Crossroads’ Bible study materials—for helping turn his life around. “Your support doesn’t just change lives—it saves souls. I’m one of them,” he said.
Now 64, Billy wakes up each day in awe of God’s faithfulness. “God took away my gambling, smoking, drinking, drug addiction,” he said. “If this is not a true, living God, I don’t know what is. I have witnessed His glory.”
Billy’s transformation started with a Bible study.
