When LaMarcus entered one of the most dangerous prisons in Mississippi, he didn’t expect to find love or hope. But one day, as he walked the prison yard, he heard someone shout “prayer call.” Out of curiosity, he decided to join in. What he experienced there was something he never imagined: a group of Christian men showering him with love.

“It was the last place I thought I might find someone who would love someone,” LaMarcus said.

This unexpected display of Christ’s love opened his eyes and heart. From that moment on, he began to study his Bible every day, discovering God’s voice through the Scriptures. He found strength in verses like 1 Corinthians 5:17, which reminded him that in Christ, he was a new creation, and 1 John 4:1, which reassured him that the Spirit of God within him was stronger than any force in the world.

As LaMarcus continued to grow in his faith, he realized that God was calling him to do more than just sit on the sidelines. With the support and encouragement of Crossroads mentors, LaMarcus found the courage to serve others. Today, he teaches a discipleship class every Friday and preaches God’s Word twice a month within the prison walls. He’s no longer afraid; instead, he boldly shares the gospel, giving all glory to God.

Reflecting on his journey, LaMarcus expresses deep gratitude for Crossroads. “Crossroads has really helped me in every area of my life. Spiritually, I have grown. I thank Crossroads for all the support and encouragement I have received.” Through the correspondence-based Bible studies, LaMarcus not only found strength and guidance but also a community that helped him step into his God-given purpose.

LaMarcus’s story is a reminder of how God’s love can reach even the darkest places, bringing hope and transformation. “Even though I’m locked up, I’m free,” he said, echoing the truth of Jesus’ words: “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36).
