Five Days of Prayer: Day Three
A prayer for the mental and physical health of people behind bars
Dear Lord,
Today, we uplift the concerns of incarcerated men and women who struggle with mental and physical illness. Our hearts are heavy as we think of our brothers and sisters behind bars who grapple with the weight of these challenges.
We grieve alongside their loved ones, who undoubtedly bear heavy burdens of worry and helplessness as they witness their suffering. May they find peace in Your presence, a source of comfort and strength as they navigate these difficult circumstances.
We ask that You watch over people behind bars who need healing. Protect them from any harm or exploitation from those who seek to prey on their vulnerabilities. Provide them with comfort, rest, and recovery.
Please also be with the medical staff and mental health professionals at correctional facilities. Please guide them to treat their patients with compassion. Help them to model Your love. Guide them to see the dignity in each incarcerated patient and treat them as Your beloved children.
Amen.
“Jesus said to them, ‘It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.’” – Mark 2:17

After a failed bank robbery and a high-speed chase that ended with his capture, Brian decided he would take his life to avoid going back to prison. When his suicide attempt failed, he found himself alone with God in a suicide-watch cell at the county jail.
A gift of appreciation
As a gift of appreciation for joining us in prayer, please accept a copy of our 24-day prayer journal.
The prayer journal will introduce you to people behind bars whom you can pray for by name as you reflect on the challenges they face in turning their lives around.
