Five Days of Prayer: Day Two

A prayer for those battling addiction

Dear Lord,

Today, we lift up the thousands of men and women who are behind bars because of addiction. Be with them as they wrestle to break free from the grip of substances and compulsions that are destroying their lives and harming their families and communities. We ask that You provide everything they need, moment to moment, to continue the path to long-term sobriety. Provide them comfort in the moments they are wracked by guilt. Grant them strength when they want to give up. Give them the wisdom to trust in You for their strength.

Protect those who are recovering from addiction from people who might lure them back to old, destructive patterns. Surround them with people who will encourage them and provide them with hope that recovery is possible. Shower them with Your grace and mercy so they can continue the arduous journey to full health.

Please also provide comfort and hope to those who have been harmed by their addictions. May they find healing and renewal through Your love and grace for them.

Amen

Praying On Knees 01

This is one of the first things I’ve been faithful to besides drugs

Brian’s battle with substance abuse began in the aftermath of his parents’ messy divorce. He wrote that, after his parents split, “I stayed with my dad, and I watched him struggle and hurt. It brought a lot of pain and sorrow on me.” To ease the pain, Brian, a young teenager at the time, turned to drugs and alcohol.
