Five Days of Prayer: Day One

A prayer for lonely men and women behind bars

Dear Lord,

Today, we lift up men and women behind bars who are feeling utterly alone. Be with those whose families will not take their calls or respond to their letters. Comfort those who feel that their friends have forgotten them.

We know that You understand their despair because Your Son was forsaken and alone on the cross, abandoned by those who claimed to follow Him. Show those behind bars that they are never alone when they place their trust in You. Inspire them to look for Your presence in their lives. Be with all who hunger and thirst for a clear path to renewal, healing, and forgiveness.

Please hold them close to You and protect them from danger. Help them to know that they are Your beloved children. Fill their hearts with the assurance that You will never forsake them.

Please also be with the family members of those behind bars. Through Your grace, grant them wisdom and the ability to heal from the damage caused by the actions of their loved ones.

We pray this in Your holy name.

Amen

John’s early life was marred by tragedy and hardship. His father passed away when John was four years old. At seven, John was separated from his mother, placed in foster care, and not returned to her until he was fifteen. Four short years later, he was in prison.
