CBI South Africa Director Alwyn Bezuidenhout passed away unexpectedly in his home at the age of forty-nine on December 10. Alwyn had served as the South African satellite director since 2011. As part of his ministry, he visited students each week to hand-deliver lessons, present a devotional message and offer counseling. Please pray that God will comfort his wife, Cora, and their son, Tristen, and that God will call another satellite director to continue Alwyn’s good work in South African prisons.
CBI is honored to have partnered with Alwyn over the past two years. The ministry puts its full faith in the local directors, and without a dedicated campus director, there can be no CBI in that country. Alwyn’s passion for people in prison and his dedication to the ministry were humbling, and hearing of the many lives transformed brought joy to us over and over again. We saw the Lord bless his ministry abundantly; because of Alwyn’s work, many prisoners heard God’s Word and came to know hope, grace and transformation.
We are saddened that our partnership with Alwyn has been cut short, but we trust in the Lord’s sovereign ways. We are heartened to know that Alwyn is with his Maker, hearing, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
