As one of the operations coordinators at Crossroads, Hannah manages mail intake and greets volunteers and visitors. She enjoys building community that leads marginalized people to whom God has called them to be. Hannah spends her free time reading, playing board games, camping and hiking. Find her around town petting every dog she meets. She lives with her husband and their ten houseplants.

Liz Bentz

Operations Volunteer Coordinator

As an operations coordinator for Crossroads, Liz manages the schedules and workloads of the more than 150 volunteers who serve at the home office each week. The Crossroads operations center runs smoothly and efficiently, and Liz attributes it to the volunteers’ dedication and belief in the ministry. When she does get time away, she enjoys traveling with her husband. Liz also loves spending time with her family, especially her four grandchildren.

Isaac Bowman

Graphic Designer

Isaac graduated from Kalamazoo Valley Community College with a degree in graphic design. He came to Crossroads after spending a few years freelancing. Isaac assists the communications team by developing print materials, illustrations and brand visuals. Growing up in an athletic family, Isaac participated in basketball, soccer and cross country throughout middle school and high school. He now has a passion for running. Isaac also enjoys outdoor activities and building things.

John Byrne

Director of Student Programming

John joined the Crossroads team in February 2021, bringing thirty years of experience in prison and jail ministry to his role as director of student programming. He draws on his background in prison program design and curriculum development as he works to improve the Crossroads student experience. John and his wife, Sue, have twin daughters and, as of 2021, two grandchildren. He is a graduate of Fuller Theological Seminary.

Amy Cain

Copy Editor/Writer

Amy has worked at Crossroads since 2014. She is grateful for the opportunity to use both her eye for detail and her creative side in her role as copy editor and writer. In her spare time, Amy loves performing, especially acting in local theatre productions. She and her husband, Kyle, enjoy singing and acting, attending plays and musicals together, traveling and playing games with friends.

Doug Cupery

Church Mobilization Director

Doug joined the Crossroads team in 2017 after working for several years at Ridge Point Community Church as the local missions pastor and leader of the church’s jail ministry. He also spent several years at 70 x 7 Life Recovery, working with people returning to their communities after incarceration. Before that, he worked as a paramedic and registered nurse. As church mobilization director, Doug has a passion for engaging and equipping the Church to care for men and women in prison around the world.

Paige Deur

Junior Copy Editor/Writer

Paige graduated from Calvin College (now University) with a degree in history and social studies education. After a few years of teaching and spending a year on the World Race serving in eleven different countries, Paige felt called out of the classroom to help serve populations that are often overlooked by society. This desire led her to Crossroads. After a year of working in the operations department processing the thousands of letters and lessons that come into the office every week, Paige transitioned to the communications department. She is excited to be able to help share the stories that Crossroads has been entrusted with. In her spare time, she volunteers as a Young Life leader, looks for opportunities to travel and spends time with her family and friends.

Steve Drewry

International Manager

Steve grew up in Puerto Rico, where he was known as “Esteban.” He later moved to East Texas and served as an interpreter with YWAM (Youth With A Mission). While serving with YWAM, he met and married Susan, who is from Grand Rapids, Michigan. They moved to Grand Rapids in 1998 to be closer to family. Shortly afterwards, Steve began serving as director of a small neighborhood ministry in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood in southwest Grand Rapids. Steve now is the international manager for Crossroads Prison Ministries, serving as a liaison to extension centers throughout the world.

Wynnielle Howland

Operations Assistant

Wynnielle was born and raised in Grand Rapids, MI. She is a true renaissance woman who loves to cook, plan parties, and weld! When she’s not working, she enjoys spending time with her granddaughters and traveling.

Alicia Janowski

Programming Manager

Alicia is a remote employee on the Crossroads team, working from her home in Indiana. As a certified pro for Asana, Alicia provides project and program management support for the programming teams. In her free time, she loves playing the piano, doing art projects and gardening. Alicia is married to Mark, a pastor in the CRCNA and chaplain for the Michigan Army National Guard. Together, they have two adorable puppies, love to hike and dream of traveling the world.

Joni Jessup

Volunteer Relations Manager

Joni graduated from Western Michigan University with a master’s degree in counseling, but after a brief stint working for a school district, she ended up in the world of property management for almost twenty-five years. The call to serve never went away, so Joni took a leap of faith and started seeking other career possibilities. That search led her to Habitat for Humanity of Kent County, where she worked on the volunteer services team for nine years, and then to Family Promise of Grand Rapids. During those years, Joni gained a tremendous amount of respect for the impact that volunteers have on the lives of others. She has a passion for working with volunteers, and the love, commitment and dedication of volunteers never ceases to amaze her! When not at work, Joni enjoys reading, gardening and time with family and friends, especially when it involves playing cards or board games. She is very excited to be part of the Crossroads team!

Jen Kimball

Business Manager

Jen has a degree in organizational leadership from Southeastern University, so serving as the business manager at Crossroads is a natural fit for her. Jen loves sports and openly confesses that she “bleeds green.” If there is a Michigan State game on, especially football or basketball, she’ll be watching. She also loves to travel, explore new places and drink lots of coffee.

Jerry King

Operations Coordinator

Jerry comes to Crossroads with five years of experience working at Mel Trotter Ministries’ homeless shelter in downtown Grand Rapids. For the last thirteen years, he has volunteered at various jails and prisons in Michigan, sharing the Gospel with men and women inside. A coffee connoisseur, Jerry also enjoys camping, hiking, golfing, reading and spending time with his five grandchildren and his wife of thirty-eight years.

Linda Laird

Advancement Project Coordinator

Linda is passionate about breathing life and hope into individuals struggling with drug and alcohol abuse, excessive criminal history and homelessness. A graduate of Hope College, she has used her education degree to teach people in prison about the relevancy of God’s Word and the full life He offers them. As the advancement project coordinator for Crossroads Prison Ministries, Linda assists in managing grants and proposals that support those who are incarcerated and desperately need God’s living hope. Linda has three sons, two beautiful daughters-in-law, four grandchildren and an English golden retriever she calls her “baby.” She enjoys gardening, seed harvesting and spring planting. She believes gardening is much like our personal lives because no matter how “dead” something may seem, God is all about bringing dead things to life in the right season—what hope!

Bryan Miesel

Stewardship Engagement Officer

Bryan’s passion is to journey with ministries to discover God’s abundant resources for mission advancement. He desires to be a servant leader by applying biblical principles for stewardship and fundraising. He is actively involved in stewardship engagement with Crossroads’ prayer, mentor, giving and volunteer partners.

Bryan has an extensive background in international business development, marketing and strategic planning in both corporate and ministry settings. He holds a BA in economics and French from Wheaton College and an MBA in international business development from The Thunderbird School of Global Management. Bryan has a missionary upbringing with educational and living experience in the Democratic Republic of Congo and in France. As the son of missionary parents, his eyes were opened at an early age to the importance of financial matters in ministry. Bryan and his wife, Carrie, reside in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and have three adult children. Bryan enjoys serving on the board of a ministry in France, traveling through Europe and outdoor activities such as biking, running and hiking.

Aaron Mueller

Communications Director

Before joining Crossroads Prison Ministries, Aaron spent seven years as a reporter/editor/photographer/designer at several different newspapers in Michigan. A passionate storyteller, Aaron loves to tell the stories of men and women in prison through Crossroads. He leads the communications team, which produces newsletters, promotional materials, training documents and curriculum for the ministry. He is also a pastoral intern at his church, a coffee nerd (he has twelve brewing methods at home), a wannabe ping pong master, a husband and a dad of two toddlers. He hopes Chicago doesn’t have to wait another century for the Cubs to win another World Series.

Jose Pichardo

Bilingual Mentor Support Coordinator

Jose was born in the Dominican Republic and moved to the United States when he was eleven years old. He serves both Spanish-speaking and English-speaking mentors as part of the mentor support team at Crossroads. A lifelong learner, he is always looking to gain more biblical knowledge and he is currently working toward obtaining a business degree. He is grateful for the opportunity to work at a place whose main goal is to care for those whom society tends to forget. In his free time, Jose enjoys lifting weights, playing sports, watching movies, listening to music and meeting new people. His happiest moments are the times when he gets to share God’s Word with others.

Bernice Roshak

Operations Manager

Bernice has worked at Crossroads in various capacities since 2000, currently serving as the operations manager. She has been connected to Crossroads since she was a child, when she remembers coming home at her nightly curfew to find her mother reviewing Crossroads lessons. One of her favorite things about her job is reading student testimonies of how studying God’s Word with Crossroads has changed their lives. When not working, Bernice enjoys watching football with her family (Go Blue! Go Pack Go!) or reading one of the 800-plus books in her personal library.

Jane Strong

Executive Assistant

Jane comes to Crossroads with twenty-five years of administrative experience in the Christian publishing/retail industry. She is humbled to help bring the transforming power of the Gospel to Crossroads students as she serves in her role. Hanging out by a campfire making s’mores and cooking in the kitchen are her happy places. Jane looks forward to seeing how God continues to bless the ministry through those who catch the vision and answer the call to serve with Crossroads.

Eliezer Yeong

Communications Specialist

Eliezer has been a nomad all his life. He was born in Toronto, Canada, to Malaysian-Chinese and Filipino immigrants, but grew up as a missionary kid in Davao City, Philippines, and Chiang Mai, Thailand. He holds a bachelor of arts in graphic design from Calvin University. Eliezer assists the Crossroads communications team by designing digital and print materials and overseeing the Crossroads Prison Art Project. He has a passion for the Toronto Raptors and collecting sneakers. In his free time, he enjoys exploring different foods and places.

Alaina Zwiernikowski

Mentor Support Coordinator

Alaina is a mentor support coordinator at Crossroads. She came to Crossroads after working in the medical field. She enjoys helping others, so her position at Crossroads is a great fit for her, as it allows her to help mentors and students on their journeys in relationship with one another and with God. Some of Alaina’s interests include visiting coffee shops, reading a good book and going for walks with her husband and their dog, Basil.
